FUNCTIONS OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGERS.





 Human Resource Management (HRM) is the branch of management which is responsible on a staff basis for concentrating on those aspects of relationship of the management to employees and employee to employees, and with the development of individual and group - Scott Clothing and Spriegel .

Therefore, Human Resource Management is the organizational function that deals with people related issues, such as compensation, hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration, and training.

Hence, Human Resource Management (HRM) can be defined as the art of procuring, developing and maintaining competent workforce to achieve the goals of an organization in an effective and efficient manner. It is a management function that helps managers to recruit, select, train and develop members for an organization. HRM is concerned with people's dimension in organizations.

FUNCTIONS OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

1.Strategic Human Resource Management:  To maintain organizational competitiveness, strategic planning for HR effectiveness is very crucial for every organization and it can be improved through use of HR metrices and HR technology. 

2.Human Resource Planning (HRP): It helps organization to determine the type and number of employees needed to accomplish organizational goals. HR Planning forecast demand and supplies and identify sources of selection and so it precedes the actual selection of people for organization.

3.Job design and Job Analysis: These tasks involve laying down organization structure, authority, relationship and responsibilities. Job design and job analysis lays the foundation for staffing by identifying what diverse people do in their jobs and how they are affected by them. Job analysis is the process of describing/ defining of work contents for each position in the organization through “job description” and “Job specification”.

 4.Staffing: (Recruitment, Selection, Placement and Orientation): The aim of staffing is to provide a sufficient supply of qualified individuals to fill jobs in an organization. The request for new hires usually starts when a new position is created, or an existing position becomes available. The line manager then sends the job description to HR and HR starts recruiting candidates. In this process, HR can use different selection tools to find the best person to do the job. These include interviews, different assessments, reference checks and other recruitment methods.

5.PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT: Once employees are on board, performance management becomes important. Performance management is the second pillar of HR. In general, employees have a defined set of responsibilities that they have to take care of. 6. Talent Management and Development: (Employee learning and Management Development) Beginning with the orientation of new employees, talent management and development includes different types of training. Learning and Development programs provide useful means of assuring that the employees are capable of performing their jobs at acceptable levels and also more than that.

7. Employee and Labour Relations: This refers to the interaction with employees who are represented by a trade union. It involves negotiating with the unions regarding wages, service conditions and resolving disputes and grievances.

8.Total Rewards: (Compensation /Remuneration): Compensation in the form of pay, incentives and benefits are the rewards given to the employees for performing organizational work. Compensation management is the method for determining how much employees should be paid for performing certain jobs.

9.Employee Health, Safety and Welfare: HRM addresses various workplace risks to ensure protection of workers by meeting legal requirements and being more responsive to concerns for workplace health and safety along with disaster and recovery planning.

10. Employee Discipline: Discipline means orderliness or the absence of disorder, chaos and confusion in human behavior and action. It occurs when employees behave in an orderly and responsible manner.
